Student Energy is happy to organise an ENERTEA on February 20th! Join us around lunch time for some free snacks and an enlightening talk by Prof. Nasser Kalantar-Nayestanaki!

The topic of the talk will be: The Role of Nuclear Energy in the Energy Transition and Beyond.

The increasing energy consumption around the globe, coupled with the fact the present CO2 emissions should be reduced drastically in the coming years, poses a major challenge to the societies on how to make a healthy transition to the era of zero CO2 emission. This challenge is primarily focused on the energy sources. Although major progress has been made in both the solar panels and the wind mills, the supply-and-demand balance is still far from optimal. With the phasing out of fossil fuels, this becomes even more complicated as every energy provider needs a constant base-load for their delivery. Here is where nuclear energy can play a major role. New technologies are being considered on how to make the nuclear-energy production safer, cheaper and more applicable in many situations. This source of energy is not only part of the solution in the present energy transition but also part of the mix for the future of energy supply. In this talk, I will discuss various elements in the implementation of nuclear energy as one of the sources needed to reach the goals of the Paris agreement.
