Groningen Airport Eelde "Flying on H2"

Hello hydrogen enthusiasts,

Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ) is developing Europe’s first “GRQ Hydrogen Valley Airport.” The
project focuses on creating a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem, where green hydrogen is
produced, distributed, and utilized. This initiative is based on a 22 MW solar park at a commercial
airport in Europe’s first Hydrogen Valley. The project includes the construction of an electrolyzer for
green hydrogen production, a facility for mobile storage, and a hydrogen refueling station for
vehicles and aircraft. The goal is to fully decarbonize airport operations by using green hydrogen and
electricity.
During the Masterclass at Groningen Airport Eelde, you will work with master’s students from Hanze
University and the University of Groningen in a multidisciplinary team. Together, you will develop a
scenario analysis
to advise the airport’s management in this unique innovation process. Experts from
Groningen Airport Eelde, Engie, Hanze University and the University of Groningen will contribute to
help you formulate a well-founded recommendation. The Masterclass also includes a behind-the-
scenes tour
of the airport.
Practical Information:

  • Start of the Masterclass: 9:30 AM at Groningen Airport Eelde
  • Planned end time: 5:00 PM
  • You are responsible for your own transportation to the airport. There is a good bus connection from Groningen Station.
