On Tuesday 4th of May from 15:00 to 17:30, Atmos has organised a Mental health session run by Martijn Veringa of The Boundary Condition.

The session is split into two sessions; Attention training and perspective training. Both training sessions are approximately one hour and in total the whole session will take about two hours including a break. After the training, Martijn will be around to answer questions about the content or about other issues that they might be struggling with (issues like sleep, exercise, habit change, etc.). Usually, this leads to a nice discussion with a smaller group. The session will be in English and be given via Zoom.

Attention-training:
There has been a large increase in interest in the potential negative aspects of technology that surround our everyday life. In addition, since many of us are stuck working from home, the relevance of being able to cultivate or improve our attention and focus has renewed interest and relevance.
In this training, we will cover the following aspects of our attention: What disturbs our attention (Social media & smartphones)? How can we cultivate our attention/focus (and thus get more done or have more free time)? And finally, what is truly worth our attention (what do we do with our time and why)?

Perspective-training
Many prolific thinkers and writers have told us that: 'Our most powerful tool as human beings is that no matter how bad the circumstance, we can always decide how we respond to it.’ This is very relevant to our happiness, ability to handle stress, anxiety, perfectionism, making decisions and saying no, which will all be covered in this session.

About the speaker:

"My name is Martijn Veringa (26) and for the past four years, I've been giving training sessions on different topics to help ensure that students can actively shape their day and take care of themselves physically and mentally! After helping my old board members (AIESEC Groningen) with these sessions, I started my own business - The Boundary Condition - and built a full 7-training course which I’ve been giving to students throughout The Netherlands. Most recently this has included a collaboration with the faculty council of the FSE at the RuG, different student associations and the board of Albertus Magnus"
